Medicaid Townhall: Redeterminations, Work Requirements, & Coverage for Undocumented Persons

The National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership (NCMLP) hosted a virtual townhall event to discuss three significant Medicaid policy issues affecting disadvantaged communities served by safety-net health care, social services, and civil legal aid providers. The audience learnt about the Medicaid redetermination process happening for the first time in more than three years and what issues to look for when helping patients navigate this process. Panelists discussed the re-emergence of work requirements tied to Medicaid eligibility and the landscape of rules for undocumented persons. Training is one way that medical-legal partnerships strengthen the skills and knowledge of both the health care and legal workforces to better meet the social needs of patients. Medical-legal partnerships typically train three groups: the health care workforce, MLP lawyers and paralegals, and patients. This tool recommends steps every MLP team can take to plan for their trainings. It also suggest content, forums, and training tips for each audience.
