The National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership (NCMLP) hosted a virtual townhall event to discuss three significant Medicaid policy issues affecting disadvantaged communities served by safety-net health care, social services, and civil legal aid providers. The audience learnt about the Medicaid redetermination process happening for the first time in more than three years from Stutee Acharya and Carrie Chapman from Legal Council for Health and what issues to look for when helping patients navigate this process. Panelists Leighton Ku of the George Washington University and Bradley Corallo from KFF discussed the re-emergence of work requirements tied to Medicaid eligibility and the landscape of rules for undocumented persons. Attendees heard from Jay Sicklick from the Center for Children’s Advocacy in Connecticut and Norma Tinubu from LegalHealth at New York Legal Assistance Group about securing coverage for low-income and undocumented individuals.
