As part of the Obama administration’s investment in tribally sponsored AmeriCorps programming, AmeriCorps made a six-state investment in medical-legal partnerships serving tribal communities. The more than $800,000 three-year grant supports the addition of new attorneys at twelve clinics in Alaska, Arizona, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Utah. This investment is intended to help tribal healthcare facilities better target the social conditions that most commonly affect the health of tribal communities, and it builds on the success of a pioneer program in Navajo Nation.
