The law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP was honored with the 2014 Outstanding Pro Bono Advocacy in Medical-Legal Partnership Award. The award is given annually by the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service to recognize the significant role law firms and corporate legal departments play in promoting health through medical-legal partnerships across the country.
Akin Gump has collaborated with corporate legal departments on MLP projects across the United States. The firm’s leadership has led to the establishment and successful implementation of MLPs in Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Washington D.C. and Arkansas.
“Akin Gump has taken a comprehensive approach to their pro bono activities in the medical-legal partnership community.” said Ellen Lawton, co-Principal Investigator at the National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership. “Partners, associates, law students, paralegals and staff have all contributed time, skill and passion to supporting MLP programs and the National Center. Their commitment to innovation and improving pro bono capacity is inspiring.”
