Today, the American Bar Association (ABA) became the first professional organization to formally endorse medical-legal partnership. The resolution, released in a report by the ABA’s Health Law Section, called on its more than 400,000 members and all in the legal profession to dedicate time at medical-legal partnerships to specifically address patients’ health and well-being:
“RESOLVED, That the American Bar Association encourages lawyers, law firms, legal services agencies, law schools and bar associations to develop medical-legal partnerships with hospitals, community-based health care providers, and social service organizations to help identify and resolve diverse legal issues that affect patients’ health and well-being.”
