The National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership’s (NCMLP) most recent survey of medical-legal partnership activities nationwide gathered information about programs’ current budgets and funding streams. (For more info, download the April 2019 fact sheet: “Financing Medical-Legal Partnerships: View from the Field.”) Building on that foundation, NCMLP and Manatt Health collaborated to develop an even deeper understanding of the opportunities and strategies for sustaining and financing MLP programs. In early 2019, Manatt Health surveyed and then convened a group interview of staff from 17 MLPs to identify common themes and trends across programs. Leveraging the field’s insights and Manatt Health’s expertise in financing social determinants of health, a recent webinar walked through current and potential financing opportunities for MLP activities, including several case studies illuminating innovative Medicaid funding opportunities. The full recording of that webinar, “Tapping Into Medicaid Financing Streams: Strategies for Medical-Legal Partnerships,” is embedded below, and the webinar slides can be downloaded from the link above.
The webinar was presented by the following staff from Manatt Health: Cindy Mann, JD (Partner), Jocelyn Guyer, MPA (Managing Director), Naomi Newman, MBA, MPH (Director), and Michael Siao Tick Chong, MPH (Consultant), as well as by the following practitioners from the medical-legal partnership field: Jay Chaudhary, JD (Managing Attorney and Director of Medical-Legal Partnerships, Indiana Legal Services), Marissa Band, JD (Supervising Attorney, Immigration / MLP, Community Legal Aid Society, Inc.), and Gerson Sorto, JD (Associate Supervising Attorney, Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County).
