The award was presented during Whitman-Walker’s annual “Going the Extra Mile” event, which raises money for the health center’s in-house legal services program. Whitman-Walker was one of the first health centers to incorporate legal services as part of the care it delivers to patients, and for 28 years has provided legal care alongside medical care for people living with HIV/AIDS, and LGBT individuals and families.

Also honored with the Joel A. Toubin Memorial Award were Donald B. Verrilli, Jr., Solicitor General of the United States, and the law firm of Beveridge & Diamond.
