A medical-legal partnership as a component of a palliative care model

In a 3-year review of a palliative care-based medical-legal partnership, 297 referrals were made for legal care around custody planning and guardianships, advance care planning, benefits advocacy, estate planning, housing, and legal service. MLP helped both patients and health care institutions by resolving legal needs and helping patients access public programs. The MLP demonstrated financial sustainability and the institution recovered $923,188 for seventeen benefits advocacy cases.
